It’s one of our favorite times of year – we are visiting programs we’re supporting in Africa! Today, we were in Malawai visiting Project Peanut Butter 🥜 (@projectpeanutbutter). Project Peanut Butter manufactures RUTF (Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food) to treat severe acute malnutrition, also known as “SAM.” RUTF is an energy-dense peanut butter that consists of roasted ground peanuts, powdered milk, vegetable oil, sugar, and vitamins/minerals. It does not require water or cooking nor does it spoil, which is ideal for a home-based therapy for malnutrition. We started the day off visiting two clinics, the Nkate clinic and Makhwira clinic, where Project Peanut Butter treated OVER 200 children suffering or recovering from SAM. We met with Joachim Landes (Director of Operations) and Alima Jimu (Managing Director, Project Peanut Butter Malawi). After witnessing the program in action, we drove two and a half hours to tour the factory that manufactures the peanut butter. What a sight to see! Stay tuned for more program updates as we travel through Africa.
